Lyuba Basin
Rare Books Curator in Marriott Library
It is no secret that the University of Utah has a great reputation for transitioning their student employees into full-time staff. When I first started working at the Marriott Library as an undergraduate nine years ago, it was clear that employee success and development was a priority on campus. I have been lucky to have had so many opportunities over the years and am honored to receive the General Staff Scholarship to help with the evolution of my professional career. This scholarship will allow me to join a part of a vast network of librarians and open new opportunities to connect with peers, engage with research, and learn about current trends and best practices. Participating in these discussions is crucial to the professional development of someone in my position — as a supervisor, educator, and researcher. Being a member of regional and national associations, I will have the ability to attend conferences, submit essays and articles, and be an outstanding representative of the University of Utah and the Marriott Library.
