Become a Member

Staff Council consists of staff members (both exempt and non-exempt) from across the University community. Members are appointed for a three-year term, with one-third rotating off each year. Council officers include a President, President-Elect, Immediate Past-President, Secretary, Secretary-Elect, Treasurer, and Treasurer-Elect.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants must be benefits eligible (0.5 FTE or greater).
  • Applicants must have successfully completed the probationary period of employment prior to the beginning
    of the proposed service term (July 1 each year).
  • Applicants must have at least one year of employment at the University.

Application process

Complete and submit the application form. You may also nominate someone you think would be a good Staff Council member.

Applications are reviewed by the Selections Committee and include a clearance check through Human Resources. Applicants and their supervisors will be notified of selection and asked to review and sign the Staff Council Membership Agreement.

During the three-year term, members are required to attend the monthly General Council meeting (currently held the first Wednesday of the month from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.), as well as at least one sub-committee meeting each month. This results in an anticipated minimum time commitment of six hours per month. More information is available in University regulation 5-003 (Human Resources).
